In a nutshell

I can summarise my previous long post on the Middle East very simply: Palestinians are currently Jim Crow-era Southern blacks for whom the only sufficiently acceptable peace outcome is that they become Jim Crow-era Southern whites.

Given that Israel lacks the power to change the Palestinian mindset--which predates the creation of Israel--and the Palestinians lack the power to achieve their consensus peace-through-overlordship, the conflict will just go on and on.

ADDENDA And this is an example of what I mean.

  1. The war will go on until either Israel is destroyed, or expels the Palestinian Arabs from the territories from which they attack Israel. Even in the latter case, Israel will probably then in a later war have to annex territories belonging to Arab neighbors and kick out the Arabs from those territories in order to convince the Frontline States that there is a permanent and severe penalty for attacking Israel.

Israel is nowhere near the point politically of being willing to do this. My guess is that Israeli attitudes won't shift in this fashion until Israel suffers a successful WMD attack.
